You are required to write a movie analysis for this course, which is worth 15% of your final grade. The details of this assignment are explained in the attached video and handouts.
Briefly: You should watch at least two films from the list, and elaborate on any topic of interest relating the film to psychology. The more films you watch, the more options you will have in choosing what to write about. I suggest you follow your interests as people write and learn better when they do so.
Movie list:
Kitchen Stories (dir. Bent Hamer)
The Diving Bell and The Butterfly (dir. Julian Schnabel and Laura Obiols)
Awakenings (dir. Penny Marshall)
Requiem for a Dream (dir. Darren Aronofsky)
Disclosure (Netflix documentary, dir. Sam Feder)
Three identical strangers (dir.Tim Wardle)
Boyhood (dir. Richard Linklater)
Loving Vincent (dir. Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman)
A clock work orange (dir. Stanley Kubrick)
Memento (dir. Christopher Nolan)
1) Keep supporting your ideas with reputable sources. Cite those sources and remember that by using them you are implying that you trust them
2) Have a narrative. The coherent development of ideas is important. Make sure the reader can follow your train of thought
3) DO NOT WRITE A MOVIE REVIEW The movie is meant to serve mostly as inspiration/starting point for you to pursue your own interest on a given topic
4) Keep it simple, but not superficial: Pursuing one or two ideas in depth is much more effective than trying to fit the world knowledge in a few pages 🙂
I’ve attached the rubric and an example below, let me know if you have any questions.
